Long-Term Rentals

Dwelling units may be rented out for periods of 30 days or greater after obtaining an annual license from Mount Joy Township. Long-term rental license applications are due by December 31st for the following calendar year, with inspections conducted every other year. Online submissions are accepted by completing this Google form or emailing the completed rental license application found below to Codes Compliance Official Dan Ford. Applications will be processed after receiving the $50 annual license fee. Check or cash can be accepted in person at the Township Office or sent by mail, and we offer an online payment option.

Short-Term Lodging

The Board of Supervisors amended the Township Zoning Ordinance in 2020 to allow the short-term rental of permitted dwelling units. Short-term lodging, i.e. vacation rentals or Airbnbs, can be rented for continuous periods of up to 30 days if they meet the required standards found in Section 135-274 of the ordinance. Inspections are required once every other year, similar to a long-term rental. This use is permitted in the following zoning districts:

  • R – Rural District
  • OS – Open Space and Conservation District
  • A – Agricultural District
  • R-1 – Low Density Residential District
  • R-2 – Medium Density Residential District
  • R-3 – High Density Residential District

Online submissions are accepted by emailing the completed application to Codes Compliance Official Dan Ford along with the $75 annual permit fee. Check or cash can be accepted at the Township Office or sent by mail, and we offer an online payment option.

After submitting the applicable forms to the Codes Compliance Official, you may pay for your annual Long-Term Residential Rental License ($50) or Short-Term Lodging Permit ($75) via MuniciPAY using:

  • Electronic Check Payments (service fee will apply, see below)

Now you can pay for your license/permit from the comfort of your home or office by using our online payment service. Credit cards accepted: MasterCard, Discover, American Express or Visa. A per transaction service fee of 2.65% or $1.50 minimum will be charged by the payment processing company for this service.

Electronic Check Payments

Mount Joy Township now accepts electronic check payments using our online payment service. Payments will be charged to your checking or savings account at your bank. You will need your 9-digit routing number, as well as your account number from your personal checks (see example below). A per transaction service fee of $1.50 will be charged by the payment processing company for this service.
